I'm loving Someone Like Us, thank you! And also want to read more fiction this year. I get busy with work projects and my reading time has severely diminished the past few years. Excited to be part of this :)
Sound great! And to soothe your social worry a bit, I saw you at a show of Diane Arbus photos, right in the midst of (or just after) the Holleran Saturdays. I was nervous, and goofy, but you were sweet and kind.
Deeply identify with the anxiety over in-person social interaction; it's the main reason why I've chosen to keep my own account fairly anonymous despite repeated suggestions over the years to reconsider. Excited by the idea of a book club, & am planning to join!
I don’t think so, at least not at first—I like the idea of in-person conversation, and not having to worry about what we say being preserved. But we will see you in April!
What a beautifully-written entry! Will read it in its entirety after work today and learn more about your new book club. It is incredibly tempting. There are several Twitter and Medium pals I want to tell about it as well.
I have always loved atmospheres filled with real books and the people who love them. I can still recall the scent of ancient books in the The Long Hall room of Trinity College in Dublin, my favorite indoor place on earth!
Will do. To be strictly blunt, I am pretty much broke at the moment and can't be anyone's Founder, unfortunately, but am so HERE for the free stuff and to be a hype woman.
Speaking of The Long Room, I was in Dublin for a family wedding from the U.S. and visited Trinity in 2015. A lovely guard who looked like a bouncer from an 80's punk club allowed me access to the upper gallery behind the red velvet rope, so I could see the ancient book collections and the busts looking down on the room.
I enjoyed seeing the young students studying and going about their days. It truly was one of the high-lites of my trip, which also included getting stuck halfway up a stone burren in Galway and being rescued by my tour bus seatmate, a kind medical student from Brazil.
Just upgraded! Super excited for tomorrow! Thanks for creating this opportunity to connect!

Would be absolutely amazing to have you there, Jesse. I discover so many new things to love through your work.
Dream come true! I'll be joining
I'm in too! But unfortunately I will miss the first meeting. Will these be recorded?
